It’s been a funny old one this one, Computer superstores selling low cost computers with 8GB of RAM and a 2TB HDD but not clearly mentioning the CPU, and that’s because the manufacturer has installed a £30 CPU, usually an AMD E1 CPU or an Intel Celeron CPU. Now for those who are thinking we think those CPU’s are pants, they are not, they are great choices for budget and do what they say on the tin, but for those wanting a performance system and lead to believe that ”more ram” and ”more HDD” is the way and purchase these systems, it’s the wrong choice. The truth is, a computer with 4GB of RAM and a 500GB HDD can out perform this with a Pentium CPU, or an I3, I5 or I7 CPU. The CPU is what you need to base your needs on as this is the brains of the computer and the RAM just allows for temporary storage and the HDD allows for permanent storage.
Remember to always make sure the CPU itself is the best spec you can afford, 9 times out of 10, the RAM on that system will be more than enough for what you want, for instance, most I7 PC systems come with 8GB of RAM which is great, and most Celeron based systems come with 4GB of RAM, which is great, because your not wasting money on specs that don’t matter.
I hope this helps when looking for a new system.
